Flower Fairies Crab- Apple Fairy
Cicely Mary Barker was born in Croydon, South London in 1895. Due to ill health, she was educated at home and taught herself to draw and paint.
With the support of her family and a local art society, Cicely's first work was accepted for publication when she was sixteen years old.
Cicely spent her life as a dedicated artist illustrating many children's books and selling hundreds of watercolors and pastels. In her Flower Fairy books, Cicely created the beauty of nature with the botanical accuracy of her plants and the innocent joy of childhood in her fairies. In the foreword to her book, Flower Fairies of the Wayside, she wrote"... let me say quite plainly, that I have drawn all the plants and flowers very carefully, from real ones: and everything that I have said about them is as true as I could make it. But I have never seen a fairy..."
Each fairy arrives with a golden cord (a great tether for flying from a tiny bonsai tree), and an attachable 6” metal floral pick for anchoring if they prefer to walk.
The Flower Fairies are cast from polystone and hand painted vibrantly in a vast number of shades and hues. The flower fairies range in height from 3-1/2 to 4 inches. Individually gift boxed, the small free-flying flower fairies are packaged in a molded insert to keep the flower fairy safe with a clear window for viewing the flower fairy through the pictorial gift box.
